Translation of the Tiruppavai
Oh faultless one who has milked many a cow,
You have while grazing, defeated many an opponent.
Beautiful creeper that adorns the cowherd clan,
Come out of your hiding !
You are a beautiful peacock of the woods,
Hidden like a serpent in the termite mound.
Come out for your companions have assembled here in your courtyard.
We sing the praises of the one who is dark as the rain cloud.
Why is there no sound or movement from you?
Precious one, why do you sleep this way, oh my dear pavai ?
Reflections
Message to the Sadhaka who is firm in her duties but afraid to venture into the bold pursuit of the Divine.
Adversity and Enemity are handled with confidence and forbearance by those fully convinced of their personal duties to family and society. Such a sadhak does not see herself as anything beyond a wife, a mother, a career woman, etc. This limited awareness blinds her to the hidden inner strength that she truly has to pursue the Life-Divine. Once again, we are reminded that there are companions in this path, who will be there, to give courage and support. Such a sadhaka can then pursue the divine in the safe presence of other devotees and still maintain her duties.
