Translation of the Tiruppavai

In your backyard the lotuses have bloomed and the lilies have closed.
The tapasvins robed in brick coloured clothes, their teeth gleaming white,
Are going to the sacred temple to blow the conch.
Young girl! You promised to wake us up.
Now it is you who has to awake !
With that same tongue shamelessly sing the glories of the broad shouldered one.
He bears the shankha and the chakra.
Sing of him whose eyes are like that of a lotus,
Oh my dear pavai.

Reflections

Message to the Sadhaka who brags but does not act.

There are sadhaks who can convince everyone else of their divinity but fail to act upon their own personal growth. Such a person is encouraged to empty the mind of all such forms of deceit and fill it instead with the names of the Lord, taking a cue from nature and from those who are responding to the inner call. Seize this opportune time and join in the celebration.
