Translation of the Tiruppavai

My lord Nandagopa ! You who freely distributes clothes, water and food,
Please wake up!
My lady Yasoda! You are the support for the cowherd women.
The Light of that clan please come to your senses.
Oh leader of the devas,!
You tore the skies by your ever increasing size thus measuring the worlds.
Please wake up!
Oh hero with the golden anklet, dear Baladeva!
You and your younger brother should not sleep, oh my dear pavai.

Reflections

Waking up the Lord simply means, “Listen to Me”. We are now inside our inner cave or dwelling. Here in the quietude, is our personal Lord. Before we approach him we must approach his Father, the protector of bliss. He is a chieftain who distributes the wealth in the form of charity. We also have the Mother, an illuminator, a leader among women, who is worthy of emulation. Both these are traits that any sadhak who wishes to travel in this path must inculcate. Having crossed that threshold, we come to Krishna and his brother Balarama. They both represent the divine in the dual aspect of divine play, one that is dark and hidden and the other that is fair and obvious. Both need to wake up in us. The world of relativity must be transgressed.
