Translation of the Tiruppavai

Dear Nappinai! Thou art the a daughter in law to Nandagopa,
Who looks like an elephant in rut, broad shouldered, refraining from retreat.
Oh one with fragrant tresses!, please open the door!
Do you not see the pairs of kokila birds cooing to each other,
On the trellis of Madhavi creepers ?
Oh lady with rounded palms !
We have come to sing the praises of your consort.
Oh beautiful lady with your red lotus hands,
With jingling bangles, please open the door cheerfully, oh my dear pavai.

Reflections

The one selected to have sambhoga with the Lord is none other than the one married into the Family of the Brave. This is Nappinai, the consort of Shri Krishna. The Lord is the Essence of Consciousness and his consort, the object of his love plays, is Creation. The created world is like the Enchantress, Mohini playing the eternal kantuka nritta, the dance with the ball. This is the ball of life which she tosses in space and time. The Lord is available only through his creation and not through any other way. Only through resorting to maya can bhukti and mukti be obtained
