Translation of the Tiruppavai

Oh skillful one!
You who alleviates the fear experienced by thirty crores of devas,
Please wake up from your sleep.
Oh pure, merciful one!
You who annihilated the enemies of the devas
Please wake up.
Beautiful Nappinai of slender waist and pitcher like breasts,
Oh red lipped one, please wake your husband.
Show him the fan and the mirror.
Have him absolve us immediately, oh my dear pavai.

Reflections

Prakriti (Nappinai) is in intimate slumber with the Purusha (Krishna). To enable the possession of the Lord, if Creation will not separate then an experience is asked, where both are present. A waking up of Creation will mean that she in turn will stir the Consciousness. An appeal is made here to Prakriti, requesting Her to move away from her consort in order to wake him up. The elements of Creation will hold the media for reflecting the Consciousness. We can fathom the omnipresent, omniscient and the omnipotent Lord only through his image or reflection. This process involves tapas which produces heat which needs to be assuaged by the fanning of mercy. This is the kalaa, the digit in which we shall recognize the whole, the Purnatvam. This is an urgent request, as the desire to immerse in the Divine is getting intense.
