Translation of the Tiruppavai
Having given up all their prestige,
The rulers of this beautiful world,
Have arrived at the foot of your bed.
We too have come with heads bent,
To attend your durbar.
We need your protection and grace.
May the sweet bell like sounds issuing from your mouth,
Cause the blooming of your red lotus like eyes.
Initiate the beginning of a smile.
Please cast your look on us.
Then it would seem that both the sun and the moon have jointly risen.
By that look all our sorrows would instantly disappear, oh my dear pavai
Reflections
Bhavana of approaching the Lord - as one who has given up pride
The Raja yogi is one who has given up his arrogance. He uses his intellect in transforming all his faculties – his body, his mind and his intellect. He submits himself to the King of Kings by removing his crown of authoritative arrogance. Only now he can be part of the royal assembly, where consultations or intimations of his future sadhana will be the subject of discussion. It is only at this crucial stage, that a hint of a smile appears on the Lord, even before he wakes up.
