Translation of the Tiruppavai
Oh one, born to a woman one night,
Growing up as the son of another in secrecy,
You squashed the resolve of Kansa who wished you exclusive harm.
You were a fire in his stomach.
Great Lord, we have come to immerse ourselves in you.
If you will absolve us and give us the parai,
We shall serve and praise the one dear to Shree.
Our sorrows will therefore come to an end my dear pavai.
Reflections
The Divine trickster revealed his mischief right from the moment he was born. Even if it took time, the wicked Kansa was ultimately destroyed. This incarnation being the much admired Subject of devotion, prompts the truth behind all the pleas. That the strong need to get absorbed in the Lord has its first expression here. This is all what a true bhakta wants, a never-ending experience of Love-Divine. This is possible only by the removal of all taints of demerits. This is up to the Lord and the Lord alone. Towards this all songs are sung in praise of Him.
