Translation of the Tiruppavai
The eastern sky is suffused with light.
The untethered buffaloes have just now spread, to graze.
Most of the girls have left.
We however have come to you.
Waiting outside, we are happy to wake you up.
Oh pavai, please get up.
Let us together sing the praises with the parai drum.
Let us sing of the one who split the horse’s mouth.
Of the one who locked in the wrestlers.
If we worship the Deva of the devas,
Even though he sees our shortcomings,
He will certainly bless us, oh dear pavai.
Reflections
Message to the Sadhaka who says, “ I am aware of my shortcomings therefore, I feel unworthy of taking this vratam.”
There are other sadhakas who from time to time loudly declare and remind us of our divine inheritance. They will stop in their personal sadhana, like a bodhisattva and like Hanumanji to be there to remind us, to prod us and to guide us. They will convince us of the strength derived from the pursuit of the divine. They do this act with the greatest of joy. Taking the cue from them, the sadhaka should gain confidence and proceed towards the divine.
